EIGHT BY TWO:

Paintings by Curt Butler

and Christina Foard

Opposites attract. At first sight, the work of Curt Butler and Christina Foard couldn’t be more different. Yet the eight paintings contributed by each create an engaging visual dialogue between figuration and abstraction, counterpointing perceptions of the external world with those reflecting internal states.

C DAWN DAVIS

A Selection of New Paintings

Her highly personal narrative art has earned a large following, both here and elsewhere. Over fifteen years ago, Atlanta critic Jerry Cullum praised Davis, whom he described as “a complex allegorist,” for her work’s “breathtaking beauty.”  Davis’s work fluently combines elements of surrealism, fantasy art, Victorian photography, Symbolist painting, and Hollywood baroque to tell stories uniquely her own. In entering the world of her imagination, viewers are invited and to create narratives of their own.

CONCRETE ACQUAINTANCES

An invitational pop-up exhibition of works in all media

By current MFA students from Florida State University and Georgia State University

11 September - 10 October

THE RETURN OF THE HERD

Paintings by Helen Durant

The artist revisits--possibly for a final time--the imaginative, idiosyncratic, witty, and often anthropomorphized goats that have enchanted Atlanta for decades.

CONTEMPLATING DUALITY

Paintings by Tracy Sharp

Tracy Sharp continues her sensitive exploration of the human face and form. Her work on panel is dense, ruminative, often thickly textured, and her images only slowly emerge through her process.

16 October - 14 November

STILL + LIFE

Paintings by Stephen Pentak and Sydney Licht

Still + Life presents paintings by Stephen Pentak and Sydney Licht, two highly regarded painters whose work explores the relationship between paint, form, and image.  Both painters are thoroughly contemporary; both have developed unique and recognizable styles and have earned significant reputations; yet both work with traditional media, using established genres as a springboard to personal exploration.
